Today, Republican extremists showed their true colors on the Maine House floor.
When discussing a bill that would prohibit unauthorized military training, Representative Laurel Libby (R-Auburn) stated,
“Let’s talk about the nazis…I would like to know what they did that was illegal. I would like to know what they did…that was wrong…that infringed on another person’s right. Holding a rally, and even holding a rally with guns, is not illegal.”
This extremist rhetoric has no place in the Maine House of Representatives.
Laurel Libby, who is the MAGA republican leader in the Maine House has raised over $850,000 to help Maine House Republicans across the state take control of the Maine House of Representatives.
Luckily, Democrats have an amazing candidate on the ballot running against Laurel Libby in November.

Hi, I’m Rachel Talbot Ross
A ninth generation Mainer, I am proud to lead Maine House Democrats as the first and only African American female Speaker of the House since statehood. I have the honor of representing a truly amazing group of Democratic House members, who currently hold the majority in the Maine House, on behalf of you and all Maine people.
I have proudly dedicated my entire career to public service and social justice. Prior to my time in the legislature, I served as the City of Portland’s Director of Equal Opportunity and Multicultural Affairs and led the NAACP in Maine. As a lawmaker, I worked extensively on justice reform and am passionate about equity for all Mainers.
Today, I am excited to lead House Democrats as we work to find common ground on the issues that matter most for our constituents. Our top priorities this session are ensuring all Mainers have access to affordable housing, advocating for paid family leave, and expanding childcare opportunities. But, we also need to be doing more to promote local farmers and food producers, bringing lesser heard voices to the table, and advancing rural progress in Maine.
Although the next election may seem far away, we are already working to maintain and expand our Democratic majority in 2024.
